Read and Change Reporting Code

Martin Breuss 7 Lessons 1h 4m Updated basics

AI can write working code, but you still need to read it, change it, and explain what it does. In this course, you’ll work with one short JavaScript function, reportLine(feedback), which turns a customer feedback record into a readable line for a report. Each record has an ID, the customer’s original message, and a reviewed topic, so every line can be traced back to the record it came from.

By the end of this course, you’ll be able to:

  • Explain what a program is and what happens when the exercise website runs it
  • Change what reportLine() hands back by reading fields from a record and joining them with fixed text
  • Give values clear names with const and fix a name that doesn’t match
  • Check a correct AI-assisted change against more than one record
  • Write a report line that keeps each record’s ID beside its original message, and explain which parts change from record to record

This course is for beginners with no programming experience. You don’t need to install anything, because the exercise website runs your code and checks it on records you can see and some you can’t.

The course formats one record at a time. Selecting and counting messages comes in a later course.
